Azumi Plot
Azumi begins the movie as the only woman between 10 warriors who've been skilled from child years by Jiji, a gray-bearded samurai. Eventually, Jiji explains to them they must pass one last test before they get started on the objective they have prepared for all those years. He pairs them up, and, simply five pull through, including Azumi. Guided by Jiji, this little band descends from the mountain that is the only area they've known. Their particular mission assignment, we learn, is to end a nefarious plan to unseat the current shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, with the supporters of Hideyori, the son of dearly departed warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In other words, they're out to prevent a civil war of the kind that ravaged their own families before Ieyasy wrested power from his competitors at the conflict of Sekigahara in 1600 and enforced peacefulness.
